History

The palace was commissioned during the reign of Maharao Khengarji III as a summer residence for his son and heir, Yuvraj Shri Vijayaraji, after whom it was named. Construction began in 1920 and was completed in 1929. After the devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake damaged the Ranjit Vilas Palace in Bhuj, the royal family lived permanently at Vijay Vilas Palace. Today, the royal family uses it as a summer home while the ground floor houses a museum open to visitors.
